The Recovery Foundation was established in 1991 as an organization dedicated to the support of one nonprofit organization, Arapahoe House, Inc. The Foundation was created to be a separate entity from the Arapahoe House, Inc. and its board of directors which controlled the operations and finances of Arapahoe House, Inc. The Foundation held the real estate assets of Arapahoe House, Inc. which operated its programs in the Foundation’s facilities until January 2018 when Arapahoe House, Inc. ceased operations.

In July 2018, the Foundation was reorganized as a public charity whose mission is to support other publicly supported organizations that are organized and operated to address mental health issues focused on substance abuse in Colorado including education, prevention, and treatment; charitable organizations that provide low-income housing in Colorado; and The Denver Foundation.

The Foundation owns one real estate asset in metro Denver that is operated by Valley Hope as a residential treatment center for single mothers with young children.
